I sailed for four days from Sydney to Townsville on MS Nautica. This was a diary entry I wrote onboard, which I then later transcribed into a digital format.
It’s Monday morning and we’re sailing en route to Townsville. The ship is now in the Coral Sea. It’s 10:45am and I’m still in the stateroom. Instead of heading out for breakfast, I tried in-room service this morning. I ordered a cheese omelette and a croque monsieur along with a pot of English Breakfast tea. In retrospect, the breakfast was a little heavy. I should’ve ordered a soup or a salad instead of the croque monsieur.
I’m back at the window ledge again using it as a makeshift desk. The sea is calmer in the morning and I’m noticing birds swooping across the water, which leads me to think we are close to land. I’ve got Agnes Martin’s “Paintings, Writings, Remembrances” that I borrowed from the library last evening. The book is a delight to read. The personal notes Agnes wrote to Arne coupled with her thoughts are insightful to read and is evidence of a life well lived.
